The California Routine is a pre-choreographed partner Lindy Hop routine that originated from the legendary Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers and was made famous by Frankie Manning and other original swing dancers in the 1930s and 40s. It’s a classic group routine often used for performances and competitions, similar in spirit to the Shim Sham or Tranky Doo. The routine combines Lindy Hop, Charleston and some solo jazz steps.
It’s traditionally danced to “California Here I Come” (hence the name), but many other swing-era songs at a moderate-to-fast tempo can be used.
For Lindy Hop dancers of intermediate level and up (starting from our Savoy group).
