The Chairdance is a tap routine that’s choreographed by Ernest “Brownie” Brown (1916-2009), who was one of the founding dancers of the group “Copasetics”. This group was created in 1949 to honour Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, who past away at the beginning of that same year.
The chair dance is a tap dance routine that’s completely performed while seated on a chair, but that doesn’t mean we won’t sweat! Ernest “Brownie” Brown was known for his acrobatic style, combining humour with sophisticated choreography and timing. So while you’re seated, your legs will move in different directions and rhythms. It’s possible to dance alone, but I think it’s most fun while sitting on a big line together. So that will be our goal for the workshop.
For this class, you need at least the basics, so half a year of tap classes is required.
